(Burnsville, MN) -- The man behind the fatal shooting of three first responders in Burnsville was banned from possession guns because of a previous felony conviction.

Shannon Gooden was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2008. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Investigation says Gooden shot the officers from inside the house, and there were seven children inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Paul Elmstrand (27m) and Matthew Ruge (27m), both police officers, and Adam Finseth (40m), a firefighter and paramedic, were killed in the shootout. Gooden was also killed in the exchange of gunfire.
