(Bismarck, ND)  --  North Dakota has joined 22 other states in petitioning against what they see as an overreach by the EPA concerning the production and use of coal.

A new federal rule would require certain emission levels from coal-fired plants to be significantly reduced.

That is seen as causing great costs for the states and as a strategy to destroy the coal industry.

Among the other states fighting the EPA are Alaska, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Idaho, Tennessee and Wyoming.
