SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sanford Health has signed an agreement to combine with Twin Cities-based North Memorial Health.
North Memorial would become a subsidiary of Sanford becoming the Twin Cities Region of Sanford with designated representation on the Sanford Board.
“Today marks an important step forward as we build on and expand the care we provide across Minnesota — creating more choice for patients and connecting them to a broader network of providers, services and specialized expertise,” Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen said. “By coming together as one nonprofit healthcare organization, with shared Midwest values and a deep commitment to the communities we serve, we will deliver more coordinated, regionally connected care — ensuring patients can access the right services, in the right place, at the right time.”
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office has asked for the public’s comments on the proposal under the state’s health care transaction law where the Attorney General, in consultation with the Department of Health, evaluates a health care transaction’s impact on patients and the health care workforce. That includes how the transaction may affect health care options, access, affordability.
The Minnesota Attorney General’s office doesn’t approve or deny these types of transactions, but can bring lawsuits to block them if they violate the law or are contrary to public interest.
