(Moorhead, MN) -- Clay County has just received a $5 million dollar state grant to be used to expand services for treating people with chemical dependencies.

"i think it's important that the citizens know that people that are dealing with overdose or alcohol abuse often up in our emergency rooms and being in a hospital bed is not an appropriate place for them to detox," said Clay County Commissioner Jenny Mongeau.

Mongeau said the grant will allow the county to expand it's treatment services for people in detox from 16 beds to 32 beds.  A site for the new facility has not yet been selected but the Commissioner says it will most likely be built in the city of Moorhead.  Construction is expected to be completed by late 2024 at the latest.
