West Fargo Fire Responds to Haz-Mat

The West Fargo Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials situation Thursday morning.

According to the department, the situation occurred late Thursday morning in the 2000 block of Main Avenue East.

While traveling back to West Fargo after a meeting with the Fargo Fire Department, the chief of West Fargo’s department came across a five gallon pail of liquid that appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, causing it to rupture.

A brief investigation determined the substance to be Potassium Hydroxide.

A haz-mat response was called with two squads responding.

Spill-dry was used to absorb the material, which was subsequently placed in plastic bags and an overpack drum.

The company who shipped the substance took control of the product.

Two lanes of Main Avenue westbound were closed during the response.
