Great Northern Drive Project Moved into Final Phase

Contractors for the City of Fargo’s Great Northern Drive project began work on the third and final portion of the project this week. Crews will be relocating storm sewer and reconstructing the roadway through this three-block stretch while finishing paving operations through phase two. With phase three work now started there is partial closures of Great Northern Drive from east of 18th Street North to 25th Street North.

Temporary gravel access ramps have been constructed at each business driveway location where the pavement is currently being replaced on Great Northern Drive. Local traffic only is allowed for access to the businesses. Through traffic is detoured to 7th Avenue North.

Current roadway and access changes on Great Northern Drive during construction activity:

• CLOSED: Great Northern Drive between east of 18th Street N to 25th Street N. Through traffic will be detoured to 7th Avenue N.
• A gravel road has been constructed across the north boulevard of 8th Avenue N from 17th Street to 18th Street N to provide access to businesses along this stretch.
• Business access and local traffic only will be maintained through the work zone as construction activity allows

The project is slated to be complete by mid-October and includes roadway reconstruction, water main relocation, sanitary and storm sewer relocation, new street lighting and sidewalks.
