May Salute to Law Enforcement: North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Thomas Steenstrup

Trooper Thomas Steenstrup is a four-year veteran of the ND Highway Patrol (NDHP).

He began his career in 2018 in Killdeer as a motor carrier trooper, conducting inspections on commercial motor vehicles, along with locating size and weight violations in the commercial motor vehicle industry.
In August 2020, Trooper Steenstrup transferred to the Fargo post as a traffic enforcement trooper.

Trooper Steenstrup has become a leader within the ND Highway Patrol in his enforcement efforts.
Tom has a passion for locating the criminal element, especially drivers impaired by alcohol and drugs.

He is a member of the NDHP DUI Enforcement Team, which consists of the top ten enforcement troopers of impaired driving within the NDHP.
The members of the DUI Team work overtime hours statewide to remove impaired motorists from our roadways.
Those on this team take time away from their families to make communities across the state safer.

Trooper Steenstrup is a well-rounded trooper.
He continues to excel in enforcing commercial motor vehicle violations, on top of his traffic enforcement duties.
He makes himself readily available during emergency events and always answers the call for assistance from our local agencies.

Tom is a member the NDHP Crash Reconstruction Team. He has obtained specialized training in the use of tools the NDHP uses for crash reconstruction.
These tools include robotic and manual surveying equipment, drones, vehicle download equipment and computer programs to recreate 3D crash scenes.
His duties on the crash reconstruction team are in addition to his traffic enforcement duties.
Even with countless hours spent on scene and with follow-up investigation for his reconstruction role, Tom remains a leader in our agency in his enforcement of traffic and criminal laws.

Trooper Steenstrup is committed to the NDHP mission of making a difference every day and upholds our core values of loyalty, integrity, commitment, respect, accountability, and professionalism.
He is proud to wear his uniform each day, of the work that he does and working alongside the other fine women and men of the NDHP.

Trooper Thomas Steenstrup, we salute you!
