(Moorhead, MN) -- Retired Colonel Dan Bohmer has announced his run for the Minnesota Senate in the newly drawn Senate District 4.

This is Bohmer’s first run for State Senate. The former Moorhead City Council member, who served from 2006-2010, and has spent the past 16 years operating and managing a nuclear pharmacy in Moorhead, was born and raised in the Moorhead area, graduated from Moorhead High School and North Dakota State University.

“We need a new voice at the Capitol to fight for the families and businesses in our district,” Bohmer said in a statement to WDAY Radio. “I am running to tackle rising crime, combat out-of-control inflation, and make Minnesota’s business climate competitive with our neighbors in North Dakota."

Bohmer joined the Army in 1983 and retired after a long military career in 2020. His service included time in the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he served as the Commander of the 134th Brigade Support Battalion and the Deputy State Surgeon. While serving in the MNARNG, he served in Honduras, Norway, Bosnia, and Afghanistan.

Bohmer currently lives in Moorhead and has seven children and three grandchildren.

"I understand the needs of our communities and will fight for our values in St. Paul," added Bohmer. "I’ve served our country and now I am ready to serve the people of Clay and Becker counties in the Senate.”

Senate District 4 encompasses parts of Clay and Becker counties.
