(Grand Forks, ND) -- The Grand Forks County Correctional Center continues to operate over inmate capacity.
The Grand Forks Herald says the correctional facility has only been under its functional capacity twice since July 1st.
The correctional center averaged over 197 inmates a day in 2023 which was the highest average in six years.
In addition the average number of female inmates last year exceeded the number of beds for all but 45 days.
An expansion of the correctional facility is underway which will add more than 70 beds.
